Robb Flynn’s Letter to his 14 Year Old Self

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know my favorite band is Machine Head. They are one of the very few bands I’ve ever been excited to meet in person and while Robb Flynn and I differ on politics, he’s still one of my all-time favorite musicians.

I read through this article on and thought the “letter” to his 14-year-old self was very poignant. There are a lot of lessons in the “letter” that could be applied to any of us.

But the overarching message is to be strong, to be true to yourself, and to allow music to help heal your soul.

We all have different life stories and paths, but for most of us music has been a life line. At one point in my life it almost destroyed me as the want to learn how to play an instrument put me in a horrific situation, but in turn listening to music has saved me many times over. Lyrics that speak to you and chords that soothe your soul, or fuel the fire to survive.

So I thought I’d share this letter that Robb wrote, if you can get past the google ads on the website it’s worth a read.
