Milwaukee’s Metal Chick 2017

Welcome to the all-new Metal Chick Podcast.

When I launched the Metal Chick Podcast in 2014, I had the goal of reviewing heavy metal new albums on a weekly basis and interviewing bands about their lives and their unique journeys every once in a while.

As it turns out, there’s a lot of junk music being published and I had a hard time finding an album that got me excited every single week.

I’m pretty picky and I don’t want to waste time reviewing an album I’m not really interested in.

That’s not fair to anyone, me – because it’s taking up time I could be using in other metal projects. You – because it’s asking you to give me your time to listen to something I don’t even care about. The bands – I’d never be able to do these bands justice if I’m not that excited about reviewing them in the first place. That’s not fair to them.

I’ve never been one to put anything out there that was half assed.

These five to fifteen minute reviews actually take a lot of time and effort, there’s a lot of research involved to make sure I have my facts and details (and hell even pronunciation) correct.

That’s not even including the time it took to gather who was playing where and when in order to do the SE WI Local Music Reports. (It cracks me up how difficult these bars were – I mean really…I’m offering you free advertising, all you have to do is give me your upcoming band info!)

A few weeks ago I was beating myself up pretty bad (a rare occasion) and the friends that sent words of encouragement were either my closest friends or musicians. And it occurred to me that sometimes I cast too wide a net. That the people near me are really the ones I should be focusing on. Music has helped so many people, has pulled me from the darkest places, as a non-musician my way to contribute is through my podcast.

It had been three months since my last MCP episode at that point, and I started browsing the recent new albums – and came up empty.

So I wasn’t sure what to do with it.

Luckily a recent encounter set me back on the Metal Chick path, only this time with a focus on the local music scene here in Milwaukee and the surrounding areas.

My husband is a talented guitar player, the artist in him and our mutual love of music is one of the first things that captured my heart.

A step in the local music direction? It’s really a no brainer.

This is really cool Carrie, you’ve always done a good job with the podcast even if it wasn’t on a regular schedule.
I’m excited about what you’re doing. It’s needed in this town!

This is something sorely lacking in Wisconsin and I’m looking forward to watching you rock this.

Cool Carrie, I started listening to you back in the day and wondered whatever happened to you.
Glad to see you back in the game.
